For 27 years Family Eldercare’s Summer Fan Drive has provided outreach and relief to some of the most vulnerable people in our community.

The idea is simple: an inexpensive fan to help provide some relief from the searing Texas heat. That simple idea has engaged our community in one of the largest efforts of its kind in the nation, and helped to boost the year-round mission of Family Eldercare.

History of Fan Drive

The Summer Fan Drive began in 1990 when we raised 50 fans for seniors in Austin. Last summer, we delivered our 85,000th fan and provided heat relief to thousands of people throughout Central Texas. Our good friends at KXAN – in particular Austin’s favorite weatherman, Jim Spencer – took up the banner of this effort very early on and helped bring vital attention to the Summer Fan Drive.

Our most popular and important fundraising event of the year is Fans from Fans. Music, great food, family fun and community spirit blend for an all-day event in June that raises thousands of dollars and fans for the people we serve. Learn more about the 2017 Fans from Fans

As the success of the Summer Fan Drive grew, it not only met the growing demand for heat relief, but also became a critical source of support for Family Eldercare’s core mission. Through services such as In-Home Care, Money Management, Service Coordination, Counseling, Guardianship and education, we help seniors, adults with disabilities and their caregivers find safety, dignity and independence as they age.
