They rolled in on skates, vans and dollies – teens from the City of Austin Roving Leaders program and the Texas Junior Roller Derby league spent their precious summer time helping to make a difference by participating in the Summer Fan Drive.
Teens from the Roving Leaders program spent the day delivering fans to homebound seniors and adults with disabilities. This is an enormously helpful way for volunteers to help the Summer Fan Drive, and we were thrilled that the Roving Leaders chose to help us reach some of our most vulnerable Fan Drive participants.
The awesome girls of Texas Junior Roller Derby organized and hosted a mash up fundraiser attended by players and officials from all over the state. They stopped by the Family Eldercare offices to deliver 6 fans and a check for $695!! This was a first time effort for TJRD, and we are super proud of their success!
Youth involvement has always been a critical part of the Fan Drive. Not only does it truly make an impact on the dollars and fans we raise each year, it’s also a great way for young people to learn about philanthropy, volunteerism and community involvement.
The Summer Fan Drive runs through the end of August. If you are connected to a youth group looking for a fulfilling community involvement project this month, consider forming your own Fan Drive Team or volunteering for the Summer Fan Drive Program. Click here for details so you can Get Involved!
